Millbrae Recreation Center, 477 Lincoln Cir, Millbrae

June 8-12: Junior program: Animated Story Book Writing Project — AI Animation & Digital Publishi

In this one-week creative tech camp, students learn how to build original stories and transform key moments into short AI-generated animated scenes. They explore story structure, character development, and visual storytelling, discovering how personality, emotion, and plot shape the world of their digital book. These projects bridge traditional writing and modern animation, giving young creators a first step toward producing fully animated stories.

Using carefully selected AI video tools, students generate 2–5 second motion clips to replace static illustrations with dynamic, moving visuals. They learn how prompts work, how to refine AI outputs, and how to combine writing and animation into a coherent narrative experience.

By the end of the camp, each student completes an AI Animated StoryBook—a digital chapter-style story where every page includes a short animated scene created by the author. With parent permission, finished projects can be shared online for friends and family to explore.

All technology and software (individual notebooks, no shared equipment) are provided

June 29 - July 2: Junior program: Game Design and Coding powered by Tynker, 6-8 y.o.

Embark on an exciting week-long adventure into the world of game design! In this fun and interactive summer camp, kids aged 6-8 will unleash their creativity while learning the basics of coding and game creation using Tynker, a kid-friendly platform. Tynker’s drag-and-drop coding tools are perfect for beginners, making learning both simple and engaging. With pre-designed assets and an intuitive interface, kids can focus on creativity and logic without feeling overwhelmed. Hands-on projects let kids create their own mini-games, animations, and interactive stories. Daily coding puzzles and group activities build problem-solving skills in an exciting way. Campers will present their unique games to friends and will have time to play each other’s games.

Join us for a week of innovation, learning, and fun where young minds can explore the exciting world of game design! No prior coding experience needed—just bring your imagination!

June 8-12: Explorer program: Robotics with Lego and AI Introduction , 9-12 y.o.

Lego WeDo Educational Robotics is a hands-on experience that ignites students’ curiosity, while enhancing their skills in science, engineering, technology, and programming. We build robots and learn to code. In our camp we use Lego We-Do bricks, motors, and sensors to create robots while following step by step instructions as well as campers’ own imagination. The easy-to-use block-based application allows the campers to operate and interact with the robots.

Campers will be introduced to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, including what they are, how they work, and where they are used in everyday life. Through age-appropriate explanations, discussions, and interactive demonstrations, campers will learn how computers can recognize patterns, make predictions, and improve over time using data. Campers will participate in hands-on activities to practice and reinforce these concepts.

June 15-18: Explorers program: Lego Mindstorm Robotics and Machine Learning , 8-13 y.o.

We teach students to build and program robots using Lego Mindstorms Robotics. LEGO MINDSTORMS lets you unleash a world of walking, talking, and thinking robots where designs are the only limit to one’s imagination. Campers will have a chance to build from instruction and to also build their own designs. We will start with building a Rover Bot and continue with building a PlotBot (drawing robot) to learn the basics of assembling, coding, investigating, testing, and troubleshooting. We will learn from the basics to more advanced programming blocks including color and touch sensors. Our robots will move, talk, dance, draw, play music and much more. Based on the knowledge received during first few days, campers will develop and build their own design of Sumo Robot which will participate in Sumo battle competition.

We will introduce our campers to the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) through interactive, hands-on learning. Campers will understand how AI enhances robot capabilities, gain beginner coding and machine learning experience, and build robots that interact intelligently with their environment with sensors.

June 29 - July 2: Explorers program: Game Design and Coding, 9-13 y.o.

June 29 - July 2: Explorers program: Game Design and Coding, 9-13 y.o.

In this class, campers will dive into the world of game development using Microsoft MakeCode Arcade. This engaging and interactive platform allows young learners to create their own games while developing essential skills in coding, creativity, and problem-solving. Students will understand the basics of what makes a fun and engaging game and will explore different types of games and their components. We will talk about basic Coding Concepts and will learn foundational coding principles using block-based programming; understand sprites, loops, conditionals, and variables. Using this tool students will get hands-on experience with the MakeCode Arcade interface, will create characters (sprites), backgrounds, and game mechanics; will learn how to design and develop simple arcade games from scratch, test and debug them to ensure they run smoothly. When students are ready, we will create a game for the console powered by Microbit.

Each student will be provided with all necessary equipment during the class, with no sharing of equipment.
